1901年，南丁格尔过度劳累导致双目失明。1907年，南丁格尔被英国国王授予功绩勋章。她还发起了国际红十字会的组织。南丁格尔为了医疗保健终身未嫁。1910年8月13日，南丁格尔逝世，享年90岁。南丁格尔去世后，按照她的遗嘱，没有国葬。她的事迹被后人传颂。她被誉为“伤员的天使”、“提灯女神”、“提灯天使” 。她是世界护理事业的开拓者、奠基人和领航员。

I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly,
to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully.
I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous,
and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug.
I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession,
and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.
