【什么|读The Almanack of Naval Ravikant有感】关于写作， Naval 推荐了 Scott Adams 这篇短文，他说 “This one blog post right there will change your writing style forever if you put your ego down and absorb it properly.” 写作的本质是表达沟通，因此最重要的是写清楚、言之有物——A good argument in five sentences will sway more people than a brilliant argument in a hundred sentences. 为了照顾读者，尽量用主动语态和短句。
从日常英文实战角度看，这些简单粗暴的建议很好用。别怕自己只会写短句，只会小学生用词，总想着「高级表达」。先能用简单朴素的英文说清楚一件事，然后读多了写多了，有了更高的需求可以再赏析练习推敲用词、语态、奏等写作技巧。

书中有这样一段话：But I don’t take his perspectives, maxims, and thoughts seriously because of the business stuff. There are lots of miserable “successful” people out there. Be careful about modeling those, as you will get all the bathwater with the baby.
在网上我碰到这样一段翻译：
「但由于商业方面的原因，我并没有认真对待他的观点、格言和想法。外面有很多悲惨的“成功人士” 。做那些模型时要小心，因为你会得到所有的洗澡水和婴儿在一起。」
这是灾难级翻译，应该是来自 Google Translate 。人工能翻译成这样也挺狠。
针对最后一句 as you will get all the bathwater with the baby ，我在读书笔记中写了这样一段：
读到这样的地方首先要联系上下文看有没有线索，根据内容判断可能的意思，然后再通过词典和搜索找到靠谱的解释。我们可以从语境中判断：1）根据 be careful 和 as... 的逻辑，我们能知道这段话大概是说我们向一些大佬学习时，很有可能出问题；2）上下文中并没有出现和 bathwater ， baby 相关的内容，我们可以判断这可能是来自某个习语说法或者文化梗。
有了这样的判断后，我们可以通过查词典和搜索查证。比如我在词典中搜 baby ，然后在词典中搜 bathwater ，就找到了相关习语：throw the baby out with the ?bathwater：
更简单的方式是直接把这句话扔到 Google 搜索中，搜索结果中就出现了相关习语：

这样查完，回头再看这句 Be careful about modeling those, as you will get all the bathwater with the baby. 这里的 get all the bathwater with the baby 就可以理解为「好的坏的，照单全收」「取其精华，也取其糟粕」。
关于这句话写了这么长，是想提醒大家：我们不是需要词汇文化储备巨大才能读懂英文。多遇多查，见多了就能更快地找到答案、更容易记住和使用，仅此而已。这样一个简单的方法背后是观察、理解和解决问题的习惯，希望对你也有所启发。
